Digital Roses
Late night glow from a six-inch screen, everybody shining but me
Faces passing like a neon dream, everybody somewhere but me
Another Friday disappears into another Monday low
All these voices in my atmosphere and nowhere left to go

Weekend uppers and Monday drag, got your spirit running flat
Take a breath and ride it out, you've survived worse days than that
Clouds can make a liar of the mind when they're hanging grey and low
But tomorrow brings a different tide, more than you could ever know

Every picture tells a story, every story leaves some out
Everybody hides a shadow behind the things they talk about

Nothin' blowin' up my feed, nothin' pumpin' up my name
Another day of scroll and fade, same game, same game, same game
It's whisperin' a fatal trade for a flash of digital fame
Smell the roses, lean into the rosary, don't throw your whole life away

Your partner and your family wait, but you've locked the door inside
They can't help you carry all this weight if you keep feeding it your pride
The thing you're thinking solves the pain doesn't solve a thing at all
It steals your purpose, love, and legacy and leaves an echo in the hall

Every picture tells a story, every story leaves some out
Everybody hides a shadow behind the things they talk about

Nothin' blowin' up my feed, nothin' pumpin' up my name
Another day of scroll and fade, same game, same game, same game
It's whisperin' a fatal trade for a flash of digital fame
Smell the roses, lean into the rosary, don't throw your whole life away

The world will still be waiting when this moment passes by
The people who love you need you living, not becoming a goodbye
There's a path beyond the fog you're in, beyond the hurt and pain
Hold on through this tide that's leaving and you'll watch it roll again

I promise there'll be better skies than the ones you're seeing now
Sit beneath a gum tree's shade and let the wind uncrease your brow
Talk to people, touch the earth, let the sunlight find your face
Watch the tide come rolling back, bringing wonder, joy, and grace

Nothin' blowin' up my feed, nothin' pumpin' up my name
Another day of scroll and fade, same game, same game, same game
It's whisperin' a fatal trade for a flash of digital fame
Smell the roses, lean into the rosary, don't throw your whole life away
Smell the roses, lean into the rosary, your best days still remain

Smell the roses, lean into the rosary
Smell the roses, lean into the rosary
The tide comes back, the tide comes back
Smell the roses, lean into the rosary

STORY BOARD

SONG OVERVIEW

Written and produced by Tasmanian Songwriter Jason Bresnehan, Digital Roses is a synth-pop song exploring the tension between digital life and the realities of human connection, hope and purpose.

The song follows somebody caught in a cycle of comparison, isolation and endless scrolling, where everybody else appears happier, more successful and more fulfilled. Against that backdrop, the lyrics offer a different perspective. Social media rarely tells the whole story, difficult seasons do not last forever and a person's value cannot be measured through a screen.

At its heart, Digital Roses is a song about choosing life, connection and hope when the world feels overwhelming.

MUSICAL DIRECTION

Digital Roses combines modern synth-pop production with atmospheric electronic textures, layered vocals and uplifting melodic hooks.

The verses feel reflective and introspective before expanding into larger, more hopeful choruses. The production creates a sense of emerging from a digital fog into fresh air, sunlight and open space.

The result is contemporary, accessible and optimistic whilst addressing serious subject matter.

THE ARTWORK

The artwork presents illuminated roses scattered across a beach at dusk while the tide moves gently across the shoreline.

The glowing roses create a visual bridge between the digital and natural worlds. The image mirrors the song's central message: step away from the screen and reconnect with the people, places and experiences that remain real and enduring.

The returning tide reinforces one of the song's key themes. Difficult moments pass. Seasons change. Better days arrive.

PERSONAL CONNECTION TO JASON BRESNEHAN SONGWRITER AND PRODUCER

The inspiration for Digital Roses came from observing a number of tragic losses involving young men in my own community. All appeared to have promising futures, supportive families and every reason to keep moving forward. Yet appearances rarely reveal what somebody is carrying beneath the surface.

At the same time, I became increasingly aware of the influence that social media, comparison and digital identity can have on younger generations. In a world where everybody appears to be succeeding, it can become easy to believe that everyone else has life figured out whilst you are falling behind.

I wanted to write a song that treated younger generations with respect rather than talking down to them. The song does not tell people what to think. It simply encourages them to step away from the noise, reconnect with faith, family, nature and the people who care about them, and make decisions based on what is real rather than what appears on a screen.

The phrase "Smell the roses, lean into the rosary" became the heart of the song. Step outside. Take a breath. Talk to somebody. Reconnect with life.

The message is simple:

Better days are ahead.
