PERSONAL CONNECTION TO JASON BRESNEHAN SONGWRITER AND PRODUCER
The personal connection behind Feet Like the Deer comes from an ordinary winter evening on Jason Bresnehan's Tasmanian property. During a cold, wet and extremely dark night, Jason walked to his firewood shed to collect wood for the open fire. As he pushed a wheelbarrow through the darkness, he noticed a group of deer nearby. The animals themselves were difficult to see, but dozens of bright yellow eyes reflected back through the darkness.
Standing in the paddock, Jason watched the deer effortlessly clear an agricultural fence that he could barely see. Their movements were smooth, confident and completely unaffected by the weather conditions surrounding them. The sight immediately brought to mind the biblical image of God making our feet like the feet of deer.
What remained with Jason was not simply the athletic ability of the animals. It was their calmness. The deer were not concerned by the darkness, the rain or the obstacles around them. They simply continued moving forward. That observation became the foundation of the song. Feet Like the Deer expresses the belief that faith can provide the same confidence and steadiness, allowing people to move through uncertainty with strength, trust and purpose.
