This song, She Kept on Praying was written by Tasmanian songwriter, author and consultant Jason Bresnehan and forms part of his Saints and Sinners series, a collection of twenty-seven original songs inspired by twenty-seven saints whose lives demonstrate overcoming and movement. The series is being developed into a companion book that combines song lyrics with concise saint biographies focused on each saint’s story, saintly movement and the obstacle they overcame.

Monica of Hippo was born around 332 in North Africa and died in 387 in Ostia, Italy. Her saintly movement took place between North Africa and Italy, where she became known for her perseverance, faith and devotion to her family. Her resting place is traditionally recognised at the Basilica of Sant'Agostino in Rome.
Monica's story is closely connected to her son Augustine, whose restless life caused her deep concern for many years. Rather than surrender to despair, she responded with patience, prayer and determination. She endured family difficulties, personal disappointment and long periods without seeing the change she hoped for, yet she continued moving forward. Monica’s movement shows the quiet strength of persistence.
