This song, Still She Stayed was written by Tasmanian songwriter, author and consultant Jason Bresnehan and forms part of his Saints and Sinners series, a collection of twenty-seven original songs inspired by twenty-seven saints whose lives demonstrate overcoming and movement. The series is being developed into a companion book that combines song lyrics with concise saint biographies focused on each saint’s story, saintly movement and the obstacle they overcame.

Mary Magdalene lived during the first century and came from Magdala, a town on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee. Her saintly movement took place across Galilee and Judea, where she became one of the closest followers of Jesus. She witnessed the crucifixion, was present at the tomb, and became the first witness to the Resurrection. Her resting place is traditionally associated with several locations, although its exact location remains uncertain.
Mary Magdalene's story begins with healing and transformation. Having experienced profound change, she followed Jesus with loyalty through the most difficult moments of his ministry. While many fled in fear, she remained near the cross and returned to the tomb after his death. Mary’s movement demonstrates faithfulness when circumstances offer little reason for hope.
