SONG OVERVIEW
This song, The River of Words was written by Tasmanian songwriter, author and consultant Jason Bresnehan and forms part of his Saints and Sinners series, a collection of twenty-seven original songs inspired by twenty-seven saints whose lives demonstrate overcoming and movement. The series is being developed into a companion book that combines song lyrics with concise saint biographies focused on each saint’s story, saintly movement and the obstacle they overcame.
THE RIVER OF WORDS, the SONG, by Jason Bresnehan, Tasmanian Songwriter
Paul the Apostle, originally named Saul, was born in Tarsus in Cilicia around the beginning of the first century. His saintly movement began after his dramatic conversion on the road to Damascus and extended through Judea, Asia Minor, Greece and Rome. He became one of Christianity's most influential missionaries and writers. Paul died in Rome during the persecution of Christians under Emperor Nero, and his resting place is traditionally recognised at the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls in Rome.
Paul began as a determined opponent of the early Church before an encounter with Christ completely changed the direction of his life. He travelled thousands of kilometres across the Roman world, enduring imprisonment, hardship, rejection and violence while spreading the Gospel. Paul’s movement shows how a life can change course completely. His saintly movement transformed a persecutor into a missionary whose words and actions helped carry Christianity far beyond its beginnings and into the wider world.
