This song, Thomas's Quiet Light, was written by Tasmanian songwriter, author and consultant Jason Bresnehan and forms part of his Saints and Sinners series, a collection of twenty-seven original songs inspired by twenty-seven saints whose lives demonstrate overcoming and movement. The series is being developed into a companion book that combines song lyrics with concise saint biographies focused on each saint’s story, saintly movement and the obstacle they overcame.

Thomas More lived in England during the sixteenth century and died under Henry VIII’s rule. His saintly movement took place in London, across courtrooms, council chambers and the quiet rooms where he weighed his conscience. His resting place is honoured at the Tower of London.
More began as a lawyer and scholar shaped by duty, clarity and the belief that truth must be spoken without anger. His movement was the slow tightening of pressure around a man who would not bend his principles. He faced political force, interrogation and the loneliness of standing apart from powerful friends, yet his resolve stayed steady. More’s story is not about rebellion; it is about conscience held firm when compromise would have been easier. His life movements show how a single honest voice can remain upright even when the world leans hard against it.
