The inspiration behind Walkin' Contradiction is straightforward.

Throughout life I have been fascinated by confident women who seem impossible to summarise in a few simple words. They possess qualities that appear contradictory on the surface yet somehow work together naturally. The more you observe them, the harder they become to neatly define.

The song grew from that observation. Rather than trying to explain the contradictions, the narrator simply accepts that some people are more interesting precisely because they refuse to fit into convenient labels.

By the end of the song, he still hasn't worked her out.

She's still a walkin' contradiction.

And he's still trying.
